Home safety program

Every year, Calgary Firefighters visit Calgary homes to share important home safety information, inspect smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

When needed the CFD replaces alarm batteries or replaces and installs new smoke alarms with the Calgary Fire Department Home Safety Program.

The Calgary Fire Department is committed to ensuring safe communities. The Calgary Fire Department Home Safety Program works to achieve this by sharing fire prevention strategies and home safety information with Calgary residents. Each year Calgary Firefighters visit Calgary homes to communicate important, life-saving information.

The three elements of the Calgary Fire Department Home Safety Program are:

  • Home Escape Plan

You should develop a Home Escape Plan with your family so that everyone knows what to if there is ever a fire in your home. Please see all the elements you'll need to complete your home escape plan.

  • Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms, when properly installed, tested and maintained, provide the best early warning system in the event of a house fire. Detection and warning of smoke and fire saves lives and reduces damage to homes and personal belongings.

  • Carbon monoxide detectors

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that has no colour, smell or taste.

CO alarms provide the only warning of dangerous CO gases in your home.

You can complete this Home Safety Checklist with your family or residents of your home and learn some of the ways you can do prevent a fire or injury to someone in your home:
