Guide to submitting information requests
The Calgary Police Service receives hundreds of information requests each year. These requests are sorted by type managed by the Access & Privacy Section and the Correspondence Unit.
The following guide will help determine which type of access to information request you will need to submit.
Submitting your Request
Access to records containing your or your client’s personal information may be obtained by submitting a written request to the Calgary Police Service’s Correspondence Unit or the Access & Privacy Section .
There are separate processes, forms and fees for each area. Please read the following carefully to determine where and how to submit your request.

Traffic Safety Act & Routine Disclosures
TYPES OF FILES PROCESSED:
- Collision Reports & Statements $45.00
- Break & Enter Reports $45.00
- Mischief & Vandalism Reports $45.00
- Lost, Damaged or Stolen Property Reports $45.00
- Stolen & Recovered Vehicles $45.00
- Reconstruction Reports $2360.00
- Mechanical inspection reports $52.50 per vehicle
- Field Sketch / Measurements $105.00
- Scale diagram $210.00
- CDR/EDR downloads $52.50
- Vehicle weight Detailed Report $52.50
- Photographs $15.00 per photo
- Subrogated Interest – fee may apply
REQUESTING ACCESS – All of the following are required in order to process
CONSENT - if you are a 3rd Party Representative that is not listed on the report (i.e. law firm) you are required to provide written consent from the person whom you are requesting personal information about. Please click on Form to download.
PROOF OF IDENTITY – you will be asked for 1 piece of valid photo government issued identification.
PAYMENT – please make cheque payable to the ‘Calgary Police Service’. Alternatively, you may pay by credit card via telephone.
PROCESSING TIMES – Generally it takes 6-8 weeks to process a request. We work on a first come first serve basis.
REASONS A REQUEST MAY BE RETURNED
- You are not named in the report
- Unable to locate the report
- The file is still under investigation
- Missing authorization if applicable
- Unauthorized to disclose redirect to Access & Privacy Section
- Fee not included or incorrect
- Incident occurred outside of the City of Calgary

- Professional Standards Complaints
- Audits of CPS databases
- If you are requesting your own personal information, there is no initial fee required
- Fees are required for the following:
- Video recordings $52.50 per recording (includes BWC)
- General information (e.g. CPS policy or statistics) $25.00 initial fee plus additional fees may also apply

PAYMENT – GENERAL REQUESTS ONLY – Please make cheque payable to the ‘Calgary Police Service’. Alternatively, you may pay by credit card via telephone once request has been processed.
PROCESSING TIMES – We will endeavour to respond fully to your request within 30 days. If an extension of time is necessary, you will be notified.
REASONS A REQUEST MAY BE RETURNED
- All court proceedings related to the file have not yet concluded
- The case is still actively being investigated
- You are not named in the report and disclosure would be an unreasonable invasion of a third party’s personal privacy
