Volunteer opportunities with Calgary Police

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) actively seeks volunteers to help with a variety of programs. Opportunities are available with the community police stations, district offices, Victim Assistance Support Team, and YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers must meet the following requirements:

• must be a minimum of 18 years of age
• must have Canadian citizenship or legal permanent status
• must have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted
• must have no criminal charges pending before the courts
• must complete and pass an Enhanced Security Clearance Declaration
• must be willing to give a one-year commitment
• must be able to volunteer three to five hours per week
• must possess the necessary written and verbal communication skills to perform the varied tasks

Volunteer programs

We recruit for the following volunteer positions:

Community station

Volunteers in a community station usually live in the community in which the station is located. They work with constables to respond to requests for information, answer phones, assist visitors, book appointments for the constables and document community concerns. The Community Station is located in Chinook Centre.

District offices

Volunteers in district offices usually live in the community in which the office is located. These volunteers assist with the subpoena and warrant phoning programs.

Victim Assistance Support Team

Volunteer victim support workers assist victims of crime and misfortune with support, information and referral services. Support is offered in the form of court accompaniment, assistance with restitution request applications and other services, and providing information about court dates and police and court procedures.

YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre

Think police work is interesting? Enjoy teaching kids? The public? Consider joining the YouthLink Team!

YouthLink is an innovative hands-on learning centre and museum filled with powerful immersive exhibits and Alberta’s largest collection of policing artifacts ever placed on public display.

We are currently recruiting museum facilitators. This role requires top-notch customer service, strong communication skills, and an interest in communicating the role of Calgary’s police in our communities – both in the past and present. Volunteers will be trained to deliver several engaging hands-on presentations related to forensics, history and crime prevention. A love of learning is a must!

YouthLink is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from September to June and Tuesday to Saturday in July and August. We are particularly interested in applicants who can lend their talents on weekdays as we move into the summer months.
