How to dispose

There are two ways to dispose of books depending on whether they are in good condition or unusable.

Good condition books

  • Extend the life of this item by reusing, selling, or donating

Reuse books in good condition by:

  • Giving to family and friends
  • Posting on online websites like Facebook Marketplace

Donate or drop-off used books to local charities or used bookstores. Contact your preferred charity to confirm what type of donations they are accepting. Options include: 

Old and unusable books

  • Put into your blue cart or take to a community recycling depot

Put used books you can't find a new home for or that are falling apart:

  • Into your blue cart for recycling
  • Take to a community recycling depot

Special instructions

  • Remove hard covers and spines and recycle them as separate items.
  • Put leather, canvas and plastic book covers in your black cart as garbage.
