Put these plastic containers, cutlery and cups labelled “compostable” into your black cart as garbage.

If you live in an apartment, condo, townhouse or other multi-family complex, check with your compost collection company to see if they accept these containers.

Why can't this be recycled/composted?

  • Though marked "compostable", these plastic containers, cutlery and cups won't break down quickly enough for The City's composting process and will contaminate the finished compost.
  • Compostable plastic containers cannot go in the blue cart as they are mixed with other additives that are not recyclable. When combined with other regular plastic recyclables, these compostable plastics will reduce the quality of the new materials that can be produced.
