How to dispose of plywood, particle board and OSB
Examples of plywood
- Hardwood plywood
- Sheathing plywood
- Particle board
- Oriented strand board (OSB)
- Hardboard (HDF)
- Medium-density fibreboard (MDF)
How to dispose
There are two ways to dispose of plywood depending on whether you have small or large quantities.
Small quantities of plywood
-
Put into your black cart
Put small quantities of plywood into your black cart as garbage. Double-bag plywood sawdust and shavings for dust control and also put in the garbage.
Pieces must fit inside the black cart and be less than:
- 15 cm (six inches) in diameter
- 1.25 m (four feet) in length
- Make sure the lid of the cart can close
Large quantities and oversized plywood
-
Take to a City Eco Centre
Take large amounts of plywood and oversized pieces of plywood to a City Eco Centre for disposal – charges will apply.
Why can't this be composted?
Manufactured wood products like plywood are treated with toxic chemicals that may not break down during the composting process and will contaminate the finished compost. Keep plywood materials out of your green cart.
