Articling at The City of Calgary
City of Calgary Law is headed by City Solicitor and General Counsel, Jill Floen. Law includes 60 lawyers along with paralegal and administrative staff. Law functions as a full service legal firm for the corporation. There is a wide variety of work which often relates to high-profile matters of public importance.
Law hires one student for its Articling Program each year. The student gains knowledge and experience in each of the Law's sections including:
- Civil Litigation,
- Corporate Services,
- Planning & Environment,
- Prosecutions,
- Real Estate & Expropriation, and
- Research, Legislative Services & Administrative Law.
Articles expose students to a great variety of legal issues. Lawyers here have an open door policy. Lawyers spend time with the student to assist and direct them. Law has a full-service library managed by professional staff.
My articles at The City of Calgary Law and Legislative Services provided me with a great deal of experience in many areas of practice. I did not realize how fulsome The City's articles would be and loved all the opportunities that were provided to me. Former Articling Student
