Public transit careers

Keep Calgary in motion and be part of a public transit system that thousands of people depend on every day to get to work, school, and other important destinations.

Connect communities and keep our city moving

As a public transit operator, you are not just driving a route. You are helping people connect, giving them access, and supporting fairness in our city.

City of Calgary employees usually stay with The City for a long time: around 13 years of service on average. Want to know why? Learn more about our benefits, or view more career pathways.

What you’ll do here

As a transit operator, you will safely and efficiently transport passengers across the city while providing great customer service.

You’ll play an important role in keeping the public transit system moving, safe, and reliable. Transit operators:

  • Drive buses, community shuttles, and light rail vehicles safely along assigned routes.
  • Help passengers, including seniors, people with disabilities, and parents with children, get on and off buses and shuttles.
  • Give friendly and helpful customer service by answering questions about routes, fares, and schedules.
  • Communicate with dispatchers and supervisors about route problems, delays, or emergencies.
  • Follow schedules and stay on time while adjusting to traffic, construction, or detours.

Why choose public transit?

  • Make a difference every day

Help students reach classrooms, workers get to jobs, and families connect. Every trip you make strengthens Calgary’s social fabric and keeps our city moving sustainably.

  • Community connection on every route

No two days are exactly alike. You’ll meet people from diverse backgrounds — seniors, students, workers, visitors — and you’ll become a familiar, trusted face of our transit system.

  • Independence with purpose

You’ll be in control of your vehicle, responsible for your passengers, and trusted to make quick, thoughtful decisions. You’ll find satisfaction doing meaningful work with professionalism and care.

Careers you’ll find here
