Board members are appointed annually by City Council for one or two year terms. Board members have a term limit of 10 years. Board members are selected to bring in a wide range of experience in fields such as building and development, planning, and law.
The Board consists of a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 25 citizen members. Citizen members cannot be employees of The City of Calgary or members of the Calgary Planning Commission.
Parties must not contact any Board member with respect to any appeal, potential appeal, or the outcome of any appeal. The Board only speaks through its reasons for decisions.
If you object to any Board member sitting on a hearing, you should state your objection with reasons at the start of the meeting. The Board will consider this objection and the response of the Board member. The Board will determine whether the member should participate in the hearing.
