Hey, Neighbour!
It’s been a minute! Between the municipal election this past fall (and the communication freeze put in place by the City of Calgary’s elections policy during that time), the winter holidays, and some staff changes in the Ward 9 office, our newsletter has been a little quiet over the last few months. BUT! We’re back and ready to share all the great things happening in Ward 9!
YYC HOT CHOCOLATE FEST
It’s back! YYC Hot Chocolate Fest is warming us all up this February!
Happening now through February 28th, there are over 115 locations (16 in Ward 9!) and 98 different drinks to try. Best of all, $1 - $3 from every cup sold supports Calgary Meals on Wheels, an organization providing the comfort of healthy nutritious meals to those experiencing hardship in our city.
HELP THE GREENLINE HELP YOU
As we prepare for construction of the Green Line LRT, the Green Line Team would like to know more about the people in communities where construction will be taking place.
Whether you are a resident, business owner, community organizer, or any other type of stakeholder along the Green Line, visit the Green Line website to add your contact details so we can keep you updated with project information and specifics about construction in your area.
PLUS: Update your info or register your business by February 28, 2022 to be entered to win a Pedal Pub Bike Tour valued at $600 for you and 14 of your friends! Bike the Green Line route in Inglewood and Ramsay and support local businesses on a brewery tour.
INGLEWOOD BIRD SANCTUARY RECONNECTION PROJECT
The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is one of Calgary’s most important natural parks. The lagoon, which is enjoyed by fish, birds and parks goers alike – needs to be updated to ensure its health and longevity. The project will see a reconnection of the lagoon to the Bow River, providing it with a continuous stream of water through improvements to the riverbank and surrounding area. This will improve the stability and quality of the water in the lagoon, benefiting the health of the birds, fish and other wildlife that visit the park. It will also create a fish passage to prevent fish from becoming trapped in the lagoon and add protection against future flood events.

With work expected to begin in early March, 2022, The City is hosting two virtual Open Houses to share information about the project on February 23rd and 24th. Register today to learn more about the plans for this area. |
BRIDGELAND ACTIVE MODES IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The communities of Bridgeland-Riverside have been experiencing population growth from a number of new multi-storey residential and commercial developments over the past ten years. Investing in improving infrastructure provides capacity to support growth and change in these communities. Through past public engagement in Bridgeland, including the 1 Avenue N.E. Streetscape Master Plan Project, we've heard some comments on issues and opportunities relating to mobility in the community.
Based on the feedback received in the previous round of engagement, there was support to further improve the proposed active mode facilities on McDougall Road and explore options that reallocate the road right of way. The feedback also indicated that maintaining parking isn’t as important as improving accommodations for pedestrians and wheeling users and maintaining green space.
Engagement is happening through the City of Calgary Website and is open for feedback until February 28, 2022.
