These activities will help youth build awareness and learn about their country. They can be done alone, but work best with friends over a video chat such as Skype, Zoom, Facetime, etc.

Mindfulness Activity:
- Pretend to be mad. Really, really mad.
- Put your hands on your jaw.
- Notice how it feels on the inside and outside.
- Now, slowly smile.
- Notice your muscles moving.
- Relax.

Canada is a big country with many beautiful landmarks that attract tourists throughout the year. Learn about new landmarks you may want to check out in the future!

Landmark #1
- This is Canada’s oldest natinal park and was established in 1885.
- The town’s name comes from Banffshire, Scotland, the birthplace of two of the original directors of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
- It has natural hot springs on Sulphur Mountain that you can visit year-round.
Landmark #2
- This is the oldest city in North America.
- It is located on the northeastern arm of the Avalon Peninsula. It is the easternmost city in North America.
- Houses were painted all different colours so the boats could see them through the fog.
Landmark #3
- This is thought to be the world's fastest-moving waterfall.
- It is famous both for its beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power.
- Its waterfalls are linked to the United States by the Rainbow Bridge.
Landmark #4
- This tower's incredible height is the reason it is Canada's National tower.
- When it was built in 1976, this landmark was officially the tallest tower in the world and the tallest free-standing structure. It was beat by Canton Tower in 2007 and by Burj Khalifa in 2009.
- It was named because it was built by the railway company, Canadian National.
Landmark #5
- It overlooks the Saint Lawrence River.
- It was named after Louis de Buade, who was the Governor of New France.
- It was built in 1893, and is 127 years old.
Landmark #6
- This landmark is a peninsula and shopping area in Vancouver, BC.
- It is man-made from runoff collected from False Creek, which turned 2 sandbars into a 36-acre island
- It is the central location of annual festivals including the Vancouver International Children's Festival, the Vancouver Fringe Festival and the Vancouver Writer’s Festival.

Canada Day
Supplies:
- White paper plate
- Red tissue paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Red crayon
- Old magazines
Canada Day is on July 1st. It’s a national holiday that marks the anniversary of Confederation in 1867, when the British North America Act came into effect. It was originally known as Dominion Day until it was renamed in 1982.
For this activity, make your own Canada Day wreath to show your Canadian pride.
- Draw a maple leaf in the middle of a white paper plate.
- Colour the maple leaf red.
- Decorate around the maple leaf using materials you have at home. Add words or images (you can use old magazines, or draw your own) that show what Canada means to you.
Cardboard Hockey Stick
Supplies:
- Pencil
- Markers
- Scissors
- Craft paint
- Duct tape, washi tape, or painter's tape
Hockey is Canada's most popular winter sport and spectator sport. It's the sport we are most successful in for international competitions.
Try making your own hockey stick!
- Draw a hockey stick shape on your cardboard (search for pictures on the internet if you aren’t sure).
- Cut out the shape and paint the entire surface in the color of your choice.
- Use the tape to make stripes on your hockey stick. Put your stripes anywhere you’d like.
- You can make two sticks and cut out a circle to be the puck. Then play on a smooth surface in your house (like the kitchen floor or a tabletop).
