Earth Day musical instruments
Cheer on Calgary front line workers from home!
Families are encouraged to use their Earth Day instrument on your porch, lawn or patio at 7 p.m. on Earth Day (April 22) to cheer on front line workers (and any day – Earth Day every day!).
Time: 30-90 minutes
Supplies
- Natural materials from your backyard (rocks, sticks, cones, etc.) – be sure not to remove any living plants or collect from parks
- Recycled items from your home – reduce, reuse, recycle!
- Other craft material (such as markers, glue, pencil crayons, stickers, etc.)
Directions
Step one
Brainstorm what type of musical instrument you would like to make. E.g. drum, xylophone, rainstick, maracas, washboard, etc.
Step two
Collect natural or recycled items from your backyard or around your house.
Step three
Create your musical instrument. How creative can you be?
Step four
Use your Earth Day musical instrument and notice the sound that you created. Are there certain materials that are better for making an instrument?
Step five
Use your Earth Day instrument on your porch, lawn or patio at 7 p.m. on Earth Day to cheer on front line workers (and any day – Earth Day every day!)
