Paper flyer
International Migratory Bird Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of May. Celebrate with a paper craft that flies!
Time: 10-20 minutes
Supplies
- Old flyers, newspaper or scrap paper
Optional supplies
- String
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons
- Tape
Directions
Step one
Watch the birds in your backyard, neighbourhood or nearby green space. What patterns and colours do you notice on the birds? Learn one thing about birds by observing, asking someone, or looking it up.
Step two
Make a paper airplane, origami bird or decorated kite. Try making up your own instructions. Experiment and be creative!
Step three
Take your paper flyer outside to see how it flies. Try tossing it like a paper airplane, making a zipline using string (tie one end up high and the other down low) or think of your own way to make it fly.
