At the top of the page write “Showing Respect” and copy down the following list:

Directions:

  • Trace out your hands and cut them out.
  • For each finger on one hand, think of ways you can respect other people.
  • For each finger on the other hand, think of ways you can respect yourself.
  • Decorate your hands creatively, and glue them onto a piece of paper or cardboard.

Mindfulness activity:

  • Sit in a comfortable spot.
  • Take a deep breath in and bring your hands together.
  • Start rubbing your hands together slowly.
  • Rub your hands together a little bit faster.
  • Count down from 10.
  • When you get to zero stop your rubbing your hands together but keep them pressed together.
  • Notice how they feel and notice the warmth you created with a bit of movement.

Family brainstorm!

Supplies:

  • paper or cardboard
  • crayons, markers or coloured pencils
  • pen or pencils
  • scissors

Directions:

  • Gather your family and ask each person two questions: “what makes you feel respected?” and “how do you show respect to others?”. Write down the answers on a piece of paper.
  • On a piece of paper or cardboard, draw the shape of a person.
  • Create a paper doll for each member of your family. Include their names and answers, for example “I am John and I show respect by listening to others. Being included makes me feel respected”.

Directions:

Part of respect is the way we talk to others. On a piece of paper, write all the sentences below. Cut them out, fold them and put them in a jar. Take a random piece of paper from the jar and think of a better way to say the sentence. Feel free to add more sentences.

  • I can’t do it!
  • That’s mine!
  • I don’t like this food!
  • I don’t like the way you talk to me.
  • I don’t want to play with you.

Directions:

  • Think about a time you did not feel respected, then think about a time when you did feel respected. Write down:
    • How did you feel?
    • How did you act?
  • On a piece of paper, draw a heart or the shape of a brain.
  • On one side of the drawing, draw how you feel when you are not respected, and on the other side draw how you feel when you are respected.
  • Add words, colours, or drawings to show your feelings.

Self-respect is defined as holding yourself in high esteem and believing that you deserve to be treated well.

Directions:

  1. Make a list of characteristics that you like about yourself.
  2. Colour your name on a blank piece of paper, and add the characteristics you have listed onto your poster.
  3. Once you complete the poster, hang it on your bedroom wall as a reminder of how to show self-respect.

Think of a place in your community that you appreciate for all the hard work they have put in during this time. Some of these places could be your local restaurants, groceries stores, food delivery, senior’s home and hospitals. Think of places that exist in your community and write them a thank you card and why you respect what they do for your community. Find a safe way to deliver the card to the place you have chosen.
