Rocky Ridge Athletic Complex
Project update – July 2026
Rocky Ridge Fieldhouse
The City has received $7.5 million in funding to complete the design for the Rocky Ridge Fieldhouse. A Request for Proposals (RFP) for the prime consultant has been released, and procurement for additional consultant services is underway. The prime consultant contract is anticipated to be awarded in August 2026.
The project includes the design and construction of a community-focused fieldhouse on a 10-acre site east of the Shane Homes YMCA along Country Hills Boulevard N.W. The facility will feature a FIFA-standard indoor field and supporting amenities designed to serve residents and community organizations. The building is planned to achieve LEED v5 Silver certification.
Design is expected to continue through 2028. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2028, with completion targeted for 2030.
Additional project details will be shared as design work progresses.
Rocky Ridge Athletic Park
Construction is progressing well at Rocky Ridge Athletic Park, with several major site features nearing completion. The washroom building, artificial turf fields and regional pathway are close to being finished. Work on the parking lot and surrounding landscaping has recently started and will continue over the coming weeks.
The project is targeted for completion in summer 2026, subject to weather, ground conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.
Background
In 2012, Council approved the Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility Master Plan to meet the growing recreation needs in Calgary’s northwest. The Master Plan included development of an integrated recreation centre and an athletic complex which includes an athletic park and regional fieldhouse.
The opening of the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge in 2018 made a significant contribution; the completion of the athletic park will build upon Council’s commitment.
The athletic park includes two outdoor, multi-use artificial turf sports fields and supporting amenities like washrooms, parking and lighting.

Impact
Capital investment in the Rocky Ridge Athletic Park (two sports fields) project will contribute $11 million to the GDP.
It will generate 100 full-time equivalent jobs during project design and delivery (based on Infrastructure Calgary’s economic impact assessment model). |
Benefit of the Rocky Ridge Complex
Investment in public recreation infrastructure is important for promoting the local economy, fostering cultural vitality and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.
The athletic park will improve levels of service by increasing the availability of outdoor fields in the northwest where Calgarian’s can practice, play, train, and compete.
Once complete, the full Rocky Ridge Athletic Complex will provide year-round, accessible recreation opportunities for the growing and diversifying communities in the region.
The Rocky Ridge Athletic Park will become part of the system of athletic parks and artificial turf fields operated by The City of Calgary. The athletic park will adhere to The City’s allocation guidelines and be accessible through The City’s booking system, used to access all City-operated athletic parks and artificial turf fields, providing a consistent method of access benefiting all Calgarians.
