Gladstone connect projects
About this project
The Gladstone Connect design involves connecting the Kensington/Hillhurst community drainage improvements to the existing 7 Street Trunk in Sunnyside to help relieve the existing drainage systems.
The design includes flow control points to manage and ensure that water being redirected from Hillhurst Kensington doesn’t inundate Sunnyside.
Why are we doing this work?
- To meet the needs of a Gates Open design condition: A 1:50-year storm when outfall gates are open and the river level is low. Outfall B48/48A at the end of the 7 Street Trunk is used as an outlet to the Bow River.
- To meet the needs of a Gates Closed design condition: 1:5-year storm when outfall gates are closed, to maintain the river level without introducing additional stormwater. A connection down 1 Avenue to Pump Station 2
- Improve the local drainage system and mitigate the risk of surface flooding of homes, garages, and commercial buildings.
- Ensure that the proposed improvements will not negatively impact the existing system or the Sunnyside community.
