How to dispose
There are two ways to dispose of asbestos.
Private disposal

Take to a special drop-off location
Hire a private company that handle asbestos cleanup. Find options in the Yellow Pages under "Asbestos Removal & Abatement."
City landfill disposal

Take to a City landfill
Take self-hauled asbestos directly to the industrial Shepard Landfill for
safe disposal – asbestos rate charges will apply. Asbestos loads are only accepted Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Special instructions
- All asbestos waste must be packaged properly for safe handling and disposal. See the Acceptable Industry Practices for asbestos for more details.
- Must be double-bagged with polyethylene sheets (6-mil)
- Material must be wetted prior to being bagged.
- All bags must be double-wrapped and sealed (with duct tape or similar products) to prevent a release of material at the landfill.
- Improperly packaged asbestos may be rejected or charged a Hard-to-Handle surcharge.

Permits and appointments are required if you are bringing the asbestos in directly or you can hire a private company to handle the asbestos cleanup.
