Put all types of chip bags into your black cart as garbage. Even if they are labelled as “compostable”, they still belong in the garbage.
Why can't this be recycled or composted?
Chip bags are made of a mix of plastic, foil and/or paper layers that are all laminated together. These layers cannot be separated for recycling which is why chip bags belong in the garbage.
Even if labelled as “biodegradable” or “compostable”, coffee bags will not break down properly at the composting facility. They may also contain synthetic and plastic materials that will contaminate the finished compost.
