How to compost soup, chili, and stews
-
Put into your green cart
Put leftover and expired soup, chili and stews into your green cart for composting.
- Use newspaper, flyers and used paper towels to soak up any excess liquid. Only put in what can be absorbed by the contents of your kitchen pail (fuller kitchen pails can absorb more liquids than emptier ones).
- If you have large amounts of soup (more than two litres), try putting small amounts in your kitchen compost every day until you have disposed of the entire amount.
Special instructions
Don’t flush foods like soups, stews or chili down your toilet, sink or drain. Over time, the fats and oils in this material builds up, sticking to the inner walls of sewer pipes, restricting flow, causing messy, inconvenient and expensive damage to household pipes and leading to sewer back-ups.
