Bylaws related to nuisances
Our rules say you can't let nuisances like dust, smoke, or bright lights bother your neighbours. Here's what you need to know:
- Keep dust, smoke, and similar things from leaving your property.
- Don't shine outdoor lights into neighbouring homes.
- Keep your yard clean so papers and debris don't blow onto other properties.
- Make sure your water doesn't flow onto other properties.
If there's a complaint, a court decides if it's a nuisance based on factors like how often it happens, how intense it is, and how it affects neighbours and the area.
Fines for violations of these regulations range between $300 and $500.
Nuisances escaping residential property are regulated by our Community Standards Bylaw under sections 35 – 37.
This page is an overview of these regulations. Please refer to the actual bylaw for more detailed information. Original copies of the bylaw are available at the City Clerk's office.
You may also view the Perimeter Maintenance Brochure for more information about nuisances and other community standards.
