Peace officers are regulated by the Province of Alberta, and approved organizations such as municipalities, health authorities, and provincial agencies employ peace officers. Different peace officer groups have different duties depending on who they work for.

What types of peace officers does The City of Calgary have?

Enforce city bylaws, patrol communities, respond to 311 service requests and other duties to ensure public safety.
Other programs include:
The Vulnerable Persons Team – Respond to encampments and connect the unhoused population with support.

Enforce city Bylaws, patrol on and around transit, enforce fare, execute warrants and ensure operator and public safety.

Regulate taxis, rideshares and limousines to ensure drivers and vehicles meet City requirements.

Business Safety & Specialty Operations
Inspect and license businesses to help protect public safety and reduce risks. Other programs include:
The Traffic Safety Team – Manage certain traffic safety issues, including in school zones and noisy vehicle concerns.
The Problem Properties Team – Address land or building sites in a state of disrepair with reoccuring violations related to safety codes, fire risks, bylaw violations or provincial health standards.

Work with outreach agencies, enforcement partners and internal partners to connect the unhoused population with the appropriate resources.
