Housing Conference 2023 highlights

On December 7, 2023, in observance of National Housing Day, The City of Calgary hosted a half-day conference for organizations that serve Calgarians across the housing continuum.

The conference brought together over 200 delegates representing a diversity of organizations within the housing sector to network, participate in dialogue and inspire partnerships. It also served as a launch into action for the housing sector as The City begins implementing Home is Here, The City of Calgary's Housing Strategy 2024-2030.

“To address the housing crisis adequately, collaboration and partnership between all orders of government and the housing sector is needed. Housing affordability is a priority for The City and we are committed to working with the key stakeholders to ensure the timely and meaningful delivery of The City’s housing strategy.”

Tim Ward, Manager of Housing Solutions.

The conference proceedings included:

  1. Land blessing from Elder Jackie Bromley.
  2. Opening remarks by Mayor Jyoti Gondek, including an announcement dedicating two City-owned sites to develop housing to support families with children who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
  3. Inspiring keynote address by Jennifer Keesmaat.
  4. Panel discussion consisting of experts across the housing continuum.
