MONTHLY TOWN HALL - TEMPLE

SINGLE-USE ITEMS BYLAW 🛍️

On January 30, Council voted to repeal the Single-Use Items Bylaw.

Thank you to everyone who wrote to the Ward 10 Office about your concerns or support for this bylaw. Based on the feedback received from our communities, Councillor Chabot voted in favour of the repeal. 

Councillor Chabot argued against the proposed bylaw when it went to the Committee, despite not being on that Committee, and voted against it. When it came to Council, Councillor Chabot proceeded to debate against the proposed bylaw for a number of reasons: its rationale, the enforcement, and the penalization. He has raised the question of accountability and measurement of outcomes to determine its effectiveness. 

The regulations of this bylaw will remain in effect until a Public Hearing Meeting is convened in the coming months. During the meeting, the public will have an opportunity to speak and provide input that will allow Council to explore alternative strategies for minimizing waste that Calgarians would be in support of.

The Public Hearing date is set for April 22, 2024 - when Administration will present a recommended approach to citywide rezoning to Council. No zoning will change without Council approval.

SUPPORTING BUSINESSES THROUGH CONSTRUCTION - GREEN LINE BUSINESS SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Green Line Business Support Program is taking proactive steps to support local businesses impacted by construction. It's not uncommon for significant infrastructure projects to have impacts on businesses in the surrounding area, and it's reassuring to know that the Green Line team is committed to helping business owners navigate these challenges.

Over the course of 2023, our Business Support team connected with businesses along the alignment over 1,573 times to help them through current and future construction. This level of engagement and support is essential for ensuring that businesses can continue to operate and thrive during construction.

The Green Line team also works closely with project engineers and construction contractors to be responsive and provide solutions when needed. By taking a collaborative approach, the team can address issues quickly and effectively, minimizing the impact on businesses and the surrounding community.

The Green Line Business Support Program is committed to helping local businesses navigate construction impacts and ensuring that the project is completed successfully while minimizing disruption.

If you’re a business located along the future Green Line, register with calgary.ca/GreenLineBusinessRegistration. This allows the City to communicate with you about construction impacts, and helps them plan ways to reduce those impacts.

STORM DRAINS 🌨️

There are nearly 60,000 storm drains across Calgary! We're asking Calgarians to help the water flow down the storm drain near their properties and to let us know if there are trouble areas so that our crews can respond.
