As of September 22, 2024, The City of Calgary has rescinded Stage 4 water restrictions, effective immediately. The feeder main has been filled, water quality tested and we have successfully reconnected the main to the rest of the water distribution system.

Yesterday, Calgary City Council formally approved the wind down the Green Line - Phase 1, from Lynnwood/Millican in the southeast to Eau Claire. After receiving project approval from Council in July, the withdrawal of financial support by the Alberta government earlier this month while they consider an alternate scope and alignment for a future LRT project to the southeast rendered this decision inevitable.

As part of our plan in repairing the original site of the feeder main break, we employed a device called a PipeDiver in early July to learn more about the pipe’s condition. The PipeDiver inspected 10.4 kilometers of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main and revealed approximately 16 sections of pipe that require urgent repair to prevent the risk of another break. A return to Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions and limiting indoor water use will begin on August 26 and run through most of September.

Team Ward 9 is seeking proposals from Indigenous artists with a connection to Treaty 7 land interested in partnering to design and create an illustrated map about water. This map will highlight water resources, infrastructure, and landmarks, while sharing stories and raising awareness about water conservation, management, history, and the importance of water in Ward 9 and through Calgary.
