Contractors may apply in person at the Planning Services Centre or by mail. Please note that we do not accept trade permit applications that have been received by fax or have been photocopied. The signature at the bottom of each application must be original.

To apply online, you need a myID account or Vista account. Create a myID account.

As a trade contractor, you can apply in-person, by mail or online through the VISTA system. To apply, all trade contractors must:

  • have a valid trade certification and be registered with The City of Calgary as a City qualified tradesperson
  • have either a valid contractor's business licence with The City of Calgary or have been added to another business licence as a City qualified tradesperson;
  • have a VISTA account.

Fees

​​

Trade permit fees are calculated based on the cost of the job and a Safety Codes Council fee. Please see the fee schedule to determine permit fees or view an estimate.

Risks of working without a trade permit

If you, as a contractor, do not have permits for work that has been started or completed:

  • A stop work order may be issued by a City inspector.
  • A fine may be issued for building without a permit.
  • You may have to undo work that has been completed.
  • You may have to do more work than was originally planned and budgeted.

a.  Visit Shopping Cart - Select Account Access Type

b.  Log in using MyID or Vista (Register users: Use your existing Online Permit User Id and Password.

c.  If you do not have a myID account:

 i. Create a myID account at https://myid.calgary.ca/idm/

ii. Upon registration, you'll get a validation code at the registered email address. 

iii. Enter the validation code in the “One time passcode” box and click Submit. 

 iv. You will be logged in to the system and taken to your dashboard.

v. Convert your myID account to a myID business administrator account, visit Convert to myID business administrator account and enter your business ID number (BID)

b.       Select the fees you wish to pay by checking the box next to each item.

c.        You can also select "Pay All" if you want to pay all pending fees at once.

b.       Your selected fees will be moved to the shopping cart.

b.       Review the fees in your cart to ensure everything is accurate.

c.        If necessary, remove or update items before proceeding.

Yes, you can add multiple permits to your shopping cart. Simply select the permits you need and click “Add to Cart” for each one.

3. Can I save my application and return it later?

Yes, you can save your progress at any time. Just log in to your account, and you can return to your saved applications whenever you're ready to continue.
