Benefits of sailing camps
Sailing camps build sailing skill, confidence and independence in a team environment. As you complete the advanced sailing levels, there is opportunity to pursue your sailing certifications and become a future sailing instructor.
Sailing is great strength and cardiovascular workout that helps improve concentration and awareness of your surroundings. Sailing is a also a relaxing pastime, and learning to sail builds confidence while providing a great sense of accomplishment.

Spring & summer registration dates
- 6 a.m. — Online (virtual waiting room opens at 5:30 a.m.)
- 8:30 a.m. — By calling the Customer Service Centre at 403-268-3800 (option 1)
- During business hours — At any City-operated Aquatic & Recreation or Arts facility
Types of sailing day camps
You can register online, in person at our Aquatic facilities, or by calling
403-268-3800 (option 1).

If you require additional care for your kid before or after summer day camps, pre and/or post-care is available. Pre-care is from 8 - 9 a.m. and post-care is from 4 - 5 p.m. Kids will take part in low-energy games or independent activities. Only available at specific locations at an additional cost.
Age: 5 - 12 years
Prerequisites: None

Beginner sailors will be introduced to the fundamentals of sailing with fun activities on water and land in this week-long summer camp. They will use Optimist class sailboats, which are specifically designed for juniors to learn how to balance and steer.
Age: 7 - 12 years
Prerequisite: Must weigh under 100 lbs.

In this two-week day camp, campers new to sailing will work on their CANSail 1 skills. In an Optimist class sailboat, specific to this weight class, they will learn to sail in winds up to 25 km/hr and learn basic propulsion, direction and balance skills.
Age: 9 - 14 years
Prerequisite: WetFeet, and must weigh less than 100 lbs.

In this two-week day camp, campers with some sailing experience will grow their CANSail 2 skills in an Optimist class sailboat. They will sail in winds up to 35 km/hr and refine their propulsion, direction and balance skills.
Age: 9 - 14 years
Prerequisite: CANSail Opti 1 or WetFeet and weigh under 100 lbs.

Designed for campers new to sailing, this two-week day camp will help them work on their CANSail 1 skills. They will learn to sail in a 420 dinghy in winds up to 30 km/hr and learn basic propulsion, direction and balance skills.
Age: 9 - 17 years
Prerequisite: No previous experience required and must weigh more than 85 lbs.

Campers who have some sailing experience will work on their CANSail 2 skills in a 420 dinghy. During this two-week summer camp, they will sail in winds up to 35 km/hr and continue to refine their propulsion, direction and balance skills, while working as a team.
Age: 9 - 17 years
Prerequisite: CANSail 1 or CANSail 1 Opti, and must weigh over 85 lbs.

During this two-week summer camp, intermediate sailors will work on their CANSail 3 skills. Campers will sail in a 420 dinghy in winds up to 40 km/hr and learn intermediate sailing skills and basic racing knowledge while learning to work as a team with other campers.
Age: 11 - 17 years
Prerequisite: CANSail 2 or CANSail 2 Opti, and must weigh over 85 lbs.

Campers with intermediate sailing knowledge will continue to improve their confidence and work on their CANSail 4 skills. During this two-week day camp, campers will sail in winds up to 40 km/hr and refine their racing skills in a Laser class sailboat.
Age: 11 - 17 years
Prerequisite: CANSail 3, and must weigh over 85 lbs.

Campers with sailing experience will work on their CANSail 5 skills in this two-week summer camp. They will sail a 420 dinghy in winds 40 km/hr and above, while learning spinnaker and trapeze skills.
Age: 11 - 17 years
Prerequisite: CANSail 4
About our instructors
Our instructors are Sail Canada certified, knowledgeable and active members of the sailing community. They are skilled, passionate, and enthusiastic about developing the next generation of sailors.

What are sailing camps like?
Campers sail every day, weather permitting. There will be in-class time to learn sailing theory and work on knots. Campers will also take part in daily sailing activities and skill development, morning Flag Circle, a sailing field trip, and the much-beloved tradition of Pirates Day.

Come prepared
The school provides boats, lifejackets, helmets and all safety equipment. Students are required to bring:
- closed-toed non-slip footwear
- a change of clothes, including underwear
- sunscreen
- rain gear such as a rain jacket or rain pants, according to weather
- water bottle
- packed lunch

Focus on inclusive environment
For your child to have their best day camp experience, please tell us of any needs that could impact their participation when you register. If your child requires more support than we can provide a day camp supervisor will request you, the parent/guardian, to provide a support worker/aide to attend camp with your child.
If your child has severe physical mobility issues, we share space with the Disabled Sailing Association (DSA). Contact them directly for more information about their programs.

Volunteering
You must be minimum age 14 have taken CanSail 3 or above to be considered as a volunteer in this program and the expectation is a minimum of a 2 week commitment.
