Investments to support established area growth
Citywide Growth Strategy
We invest to help established communities grow. The Citywide Growth Strategy makes this possible by planning upgrades and removing barriers to redevelopment.
-
Established Area Growth and Change Strategy
We’re guiding long-term growth in Calgary’s established communities—where most Calgarians live. This strategy helps us plan and prioritize public space and infrastructure upgrades to support redevelopment and align with citywide goals. We execute grants such as the Growing Spaces grant to support increased density.
-
Investing in Established Communities
We’re delivering visible improvements in neighbourhoods already experiencing growth—like upgraded sidewalks, parks, and streetscapes. These projects respond directly to redevelopment and community needs. Projects include the Spruce Drive Pathway Improvements in Westbrook to improve safety and mobility. The Local Area Investment Fund, City capital budgets and developer contributions help fund these projects.
-
Main Streets
Calgary’s Main Streets are vibrant, welcoming places where people live, work, and connect. We’re investing in these corridors to enhance public spaces, support local businesses, and create walkable, mixed-use destinations. Projects include Bridgeland and Marda Loop Main Streets with funding from City capital budgets and developer contributions.
-
Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)
We’re building more homes, businesses and amenities near transit stations—making it easier for Calgarians to live, work, and connect using public transport. Projects include Franklin Station area improvements with funding from the TOD Implementation Strategy and City capital investments.
-
Local Area Investment Fund
We’re funding public space and infrastructure improvements identified in approved local area plans—bringing community priorities to life through targeted investment. Projects include the Acadia Drive / 90 Avenue SE corridor redesign for safer, multi-modal travel with funding approved by Council.
-
Calgary’s Bikeway & Pathway Network
We’re expanding and upgrading Calgary’s pathway system to make walking, cycling, and rolling safer and more accessible. These routes connect communities and support healthy, active lifestyles.
-
Utility Redevelopment Programs
We’re upgrading water, sanitary, and stormwater systems in established areas to support redevelopment and improve drainage. These programs align water main and stormwater upgrades with other City projects to reduce costs and limit disruption, especially in priority areas like recent Local Area Plans and Main Streets. The upgrades help communities prepare for expected growth.
