Transportation Data
Transportation Data designs and implements studies, develops databases, monitors trends and analyses data relating to all modes of travel.
Calgary Traffic Count System
The Calgary Traffic Count System or CalTRACS is an online application that you can use to access The City's transportation data collected over the past 40 years. With this system, you can now search data that displays counts of pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles at intersections and on streets within Calgary. You can also view data on the number of pedestrians using crosswalks, the types of vehicles and the speeds of vehicles travelling on selected streets. Viewing this information is an opportunity for citizens to identify travel trends in their community.
Central Business District Cordon Count
The City of Calgary conducts the Central Business District (CBD) cordon count on an annual basis. The program counts all pedestrians, bicyclists, transit passengers, and vehicle drivers and passengers, entering and exiting the downtown area. The City uses the downtown cordon counts to examine changes in the transportation modal split and to monitor the goals set out in the Calgary Transportation Plan.
Transportation Data Collection Program
The Traffic Volume Flow Map illustrates the Average Annual Weekday Traffic (AAWT) using manual, automatic and permanent count station data.
Daily Data Counts
Daily bicycle counts are available from sensors set up on the Peace Bridge, cycle tracks and Stephen Avenue. Using an Eco-Counter machine, cyclists are detected using loops embedded in the pavement. The data provides a breakdown of the number of cyclists on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
