Study overview

In the 1980s, the City of Calgary prepared a Functional Planning Study for Glenmore Trail S.E. Glenmore Trail is the primary east-west expressway in south Calgary, and plays an important role in the City's overall transportation network. It is the only over-height, wide load, continuous east-west transportation corridor in The City and is part of the key skeletal network of high-volume, free-flowing expressway facilities.

The contractor working on behalf of The Provincial Government completed the southeast leg of Stoney Trail in 2013.

In preparation for this major infrastructure project, The City of Calgary commissioned a study to review requirements for the Glenmore Trail and Peigan Trail corridors connecting to Stoney Trail, as well as opportunities for improving access at 68 Street to provide full connectivity in all directions. The enhancement of access to 68 Street from both east-west corridors would improve circulation within important industrial growth areas in the City's southeast, and is consistent with City Council's strategic objective to improve critical goods movement corridors throughout Calgary to keep our economy on the move.
