Where you can use Recreation Fee Assistance
Fee Assistance discounts
City registered classes, lessons and day camps
Save up to 90% on most registered programs, including art classes, swimming, skating, sports, dance and martial arts programs.
Registrations can be completed in person at a recreation facility, by calling 403-268-3800 or online.
For children and youth (17 and under)
Save 90% for programs under $100.00.
- For example, swimming lessons that cost $86.00, you will pay $8.60.
For programs over $100.00, save 90% on registration fees, up to $100 per program.
- For example, a day camp that costs $261.25, you will pay $162.25.
You can apply the subsidy for up to four programs or a total of $250 within a 12-month period. You must cover any costs exceeding the $250 subsidy.
For adults (18 and over)
Save 90% on registration fees, up to $50 per program.
- For example, if you are registered in a program that costs $84.00, you will pay $34.00.
You can apply the subsidy to one program within a 12-month period. You must cover any costs exceeding the $50 subsidy.
What you need to know
- Fee assistance can be applied to pre/post care.
- Any unused subsidy cannot be carried over or transferred.
- If you withdraw from a program costing less than $120.00 before the start date, the course fees are non-refundable since the cost of the program is equivalent to the 10% cancellation fee.
- Programs that cost more than $120.00 will be charged the 10% cancellation fee and refunded the remaining amount.
- If you withdraw after the start of a program, your subsidy and any fees paid are non-refundable.
City leisure centres, indoor pools and fitness facilities
Save 75% on:
- general admission drop-in rates;
- 10x punch cards; and
- 1-month or 12-month Rec Pass/Rec Pass Plus passes.
Show your ID for your first purchase only when purchasing an eligible pass from our recreation facilities.
What you need to know
Pay the full price of your pass or punch card after your subsidy is applied. You can’t share them with others.
Punch cards:
- Use up your punch card before buying a new one.
- They can't be bought within 10 days of your fee assistance expiry date.
- They are valid only for the facility type (aquatic & fitness centre, leisure centre and public skate/shinny).
- They expire two years after the date you buy them.
1-month Rec Pass/Rec Pass Plus passes:
- You can renew it up to 29 days in advance.
- You can buy a pass up until one month before your fee assistance expiry date.
12-month Rec Pass/Rec Pass Plus passes:
- You must buy it within the first month of being approved through Fair Entry.
Note: 1-month continuous Rec Pass/Rec Pass Plus passes are not eligible for fee assistance.
City golf courses
Save 65% on regular green fees after 2 p.m. and Twilight 9 or 18 green fees. To receive this discount, you will need a Fee Assistance Smart Card. This is a virtual card that allows you to access 10 rounds of golf at City golf courses.
How to get your Smart Card
- Create your account and profile.
- Bring your Fee Assistance card and ID to any City golf clubhouse.
Important: Fair Entry confirmation letters will not be accepted as proof to get a Fee Assistance Smart Card.
What you need to know
- You can get one Smart Card per person per golf season.
- Your card includes up to 10 rounds of golf.
- One "round" = one scan of your card.
- This can be for 9 holes, Twilight 9, 18 holes or Twilight 18.
- Your game must be played after 2 p.m.
- If you golf before 2 p.m., you'll pay the regular price.
- No rain checks are given on discounted rounds.
- You can't combine your fee assistance rates with other offers or promotions.

How to get your Fee Assistance Card
This card is needed for:
- Access to partner facilities.
- Golf Smart Card.
To get your card:
Bring your Fair Entry acceptance letter and picture ID to a designated City-operated aquatic or leisure center to get your card printed.
Important things to know:
- Not all locations print cards. Inglewood and Shouldice Aquatic Centres do not print cards.
- Check the hours of operation and closures before visiting.
- Cards will only be issued to the card holder. A friend or family member cannot pick up a card on your behalf.
- Taking your picture is required to print the card.

Card expiry
Your card is valid for one year. The expiry date will be printed on the card.
If you receive Assured Income for Severely Handicapped benefits (AISH) benefits, your card expires when your AISH benefits expire, the year you turn 65; or if you move out of Calgary.

Card renewal
You can renew through Fair Entry up to one month before the expiry date.
If you receive Assured Income for Severely Handicapped benefits (AISH) benefits, you do not need to re-apply or renew.

Replacement cards
A $2.50 administration fee applies for reprinting your first lost card. Additional reprints will cost $10 each.
