Recording, reporting and removing graffiti

Help keep our communities safe and clean. Your actions can help reduce the spread of graffiti in Calgary.

Step 1 - Recording graffiti

When you see graffiti in your community, record the following information so it can be reported:

  • If the graffiti is located on public or private property.
  • The exact address of the nearest intersection.
  • What the graffiti says or resembles (includes phrases, paint colour, etc...).
  • Where on the property or parcel of land is the graffiti located (refer to identifiable landmarks if possible).

Step 2 - Reporting graffiti

If you know of a graffiti infraction on public property and would like to report it:

  • If the graffiti is in progress, call 911.
  • If the graffiti is not in progress, please call 311 (from within Calgary) or 403-268-CITY (2489) (from outside Calgary) or use the 311 app or:

Step 3 - Removing graffiti

If the graffiti is on your property:

  • It should be removed within 72 hours. The longer the graffiti is up, the more likely additional graffiti will occur.
  • If the graffiti re-appears, continue to remove it. Reinforce the message that graffiti is not welcome. See Graffiti Prevention Measures.
  • For information on the best way to clean up the graffiti, see Graffiti Removal Tips.
  • If you are unable to remove the graffiti yourself, contact a professional graffiti remover.
  • Research the Private Graffiti Abatement Program to see if it's an option for you.
  • Discounted paint products and supplies are available at Cloverdale Paints or ICI Paints.

If the graffiti is not on your property, please do not remove it yourself. Please record and report graffiti you see on a neighbour's house, fence, schools, parks, bus shelters, etc.
