Criteria for organizations to participate in School Connections YYC
- Organization is a government or a registered not-for-profit.
- Organization must have adequate liability insurance and will maintain coverage throughout the duration of the program offered.
- Program must address an existing need of students and/or their families.
- There are no fees charged or all fees are 100% waived upon request.
- At least one on-site staff member must have a valid first aid certificate.
- All program staff members and volunteers have completed a Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search verification, and are cleared to work with children and youth.
Deadlines for submitting applications for review
We welcome applications year-round from organizations looking to offer after-school programs in schools.
To ensure your application is reviewed in time for the start of the 2026–2027 school year, please follow this timeline:
- Submit by April 15, 2026 for consideration in the 2026–2027 school year.
Applying early helps us coordinate with schools and ensure your program has the best chance of being placed
How to apply
Step 1 – Complete the Access Application Form
As part of the application review process we will send the Access Application form to the School Principal for review and approval. Complete this fillable PDF document first so you have it ready to attach to your application before submission.

- Complete all required fields in the form.
- Save the completed form to your device.

Step 2 – Complete and Submit the Recreation – School Connections YYC Application
- Organizations complete the Organization Pre-screen Form to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria. Criteria is listed above.
- Once the organization has been approved, they complete a Program Pre-screening Form for each individual program that will be listed on the database or accessing school space.
- Submit an Access Application. Organizations will apply for each program to each school they would like to offer that program in.
Once you have completed and saved the Access Application Form you are ready to submit your School Connects YYC Application. Make sure to complete all necessary fields and attach the completed Access Application form before submitting.
The PDF and an online Service Request form replace the Organization Screening, Program Screening, and Access Application Forms previously required.
Once the approval process for applications has been completed organizations will receive a rental agreement/permit from The City of Calgary.
For liability reasons, organizations MUST have their permit in hand to enter schools for program delivery.
