Over the past several months, my office has heard from residents in Ward 2, including Nolan Hill and surrounding communities, about increased aircraft noise and changes in flight patterns. The Calgary Airport has provided us with further information, which we are sharing here to help clarify what has been happening and who is responsible for different aspects of airport operations.

Calgary is experiencing another round of winter weather, with up to 20 cm of snow expected today. City crews are actively responding under Calgary’s priority based snow plan, and we want to make sure Ward 2 residents know what to expect and how to report issues.

Since 2024, we have been actively sharing information about the 144 Avenue North Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Functional Planning Study, and encouraging Ward 2 residents to participate and make their voices heard. This feedback is reflected in the Phase 3 What We Heard Report, and I’d like to sincerely thank participants for sharing your thoughtful input.

I am writing to share some news and updates about The City of Calgary’s Noise Barrier Program, which will help make our neighbourhoods quieter and more comfortable for everyone. Many of you have written to our office for more information about what is currently planned in Ward 2, so read on to learn more.

As we move through February, I want to share a few timely reminders that affect households across Ward 2. From property assessments to winter habits that protect our rivers, there are a couple of simple steps residents can take right now that make a real difference.

I want to make residents aware that the Calgary Police Service is investigating a series of four residential break and enters reported this month. We are sharing more information with you so you and your neighbours are prepared and know what to do to help prevent break-ins.

The Symons Valley Centre is a major City-led project located on seven acres of City-owned land at 251 Sage Hill Blvd NW, designed to serve the growing communities of Kincora, Sherwood, Sage Hill, Nolan Hill, and Evanston. The Centre will deliver long-awaited community amenities, including a new public library, alongside housing opportunities, and future transit access.

As of today, all water restrictions in Calgary have been lifted. With restrictions lifted, facilities are returning to normal operations. Read more for further information.
