Renfrew Solar Carport at Spark
Providing renewable energy and protection from extreme weather
The Renfrew Solar Carport was developed with community support and funding from the Alberta Municipal Stimulus Program. This clean electricity project is located at the TELUS Spark Science Centre parking lot.
The Solar Carport can generate 1.2 megawatts of solar power using high-efficiency bi-facial solar panels. These panels are mounted on special racking designed for icy weather. The carport structure also includes built-in lighting to improve parking lot security. It supplies the Science Centre with the electricity it makes. It produces over 1.2 million kWh each year, enough for 185 average Calgary homes.
The Carport helps us meet Calgary’s climate goals by protecting cars from the weather and making clean electricity. It stands out in Renfrew and at the Science Centre by creating jobs, advancing technology, and caring for the environment.
Quick facts
