114-Barlow Elevated Guideway

This project will deliver a new elevated guideway structure at 114 Avenue and Barlow Trail SE, helping extend the Green Line through southeast Calgary. The work builds on previously completed piling and road reconfiguration work completed in the area.

Scope of work

Construction of the elevated guideway at 114 Avenue and Barlow Trail SE will add approximately 570 metres of new elevated track for the Green Line. The project includes building the structures that support the guideway, including bridge supports, girders and a reinforced deck.

To connect the elevated structure to ground level, crews will build retaining walls that provide a smooth and stable transition along the guideway approaches. The work also includes grading, drainage improvements and other site upgrades to support the long-term performance of the infrastructure.

Additional activities will include temporary construction works, traffic management and environmental protection measures to support the safe delivery of the project.

September 2026 Update

Construction activities continued at the 114 Avenue and Barlow Trail SE elevated guideway project in September as crews completed site mobilization and began preparing for major structural work scheduled to start in October.

Throughout the month, crews established traffic detours, organized equipment and materials, and carried out other site preparation activities needed to support upcoming construction. These early works are helping to create safe work areas and ensure the site is ready for the next phase of guideway construction.

Beginning in October, crews will start stripping topsoil in the areas where the guideway abutments will be constructed. Abutments are the support structures located at each end of the elevated guideway that help transfer loads from the structure into the ground.

Following this work, crews will begin forming and constructing the concrete piers that will support the elevated guideway. The piers will be built on top of the deep foundation piles that were completed under a previous contract, marking the first major visible structural elements of the guideway to rise above ground.
