Expanding South

 

In 2017, Calgary City Council approved the full 46-kilometre alignment for the Green Line LRT, from Seton in the deep southeast to 160 Avenue N in Keystone.

 

Phase 1 of the project is funded and under construction, from Shepard to downtown. Future expansion south of Shepard station will depend on Council direction and the availability of funding.

 

Council direction would allow Administration to continue planning and design for the southeast extension to Seton, and position the program to be funding-ready when future opportunities arise.

 

The southeast area of the city has seen significant population growth and is expected to continue developing quickly. Many communities have been built with the LRT in mind, with dedicated lands for the track, station areas, Park and Rides and high-density developments.

Future Connections

South Health Campus (SHC) Hospital

SHC has more than 3,500 staff, physicians and volunteers. Each year, they support over:

  • 19,000 inpatients
  • 70,000 emergency visits
  • 400,000 outpatient visits
  • 10,000 surgeries
  • 3,000 births

Green Line will help get employees, patients and visitors to the hospital.
