MSF LRV Wash and Associated Equipment

The Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Wash contract supports delivery of the Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) by providing specialized infrastructure to efficiently clean and maintain the exterior of the LRV fleet.

Scope of work

The project includes the supply of a new train wash system for the MSF. The system will be specifically designed to clean the exterior surfaces of LRVs, including trains equipped with roof-mounted electrical catenary equipment.

As part of this work, the supplier will:

  • Provide technical and design support during the detailed design phase following contract award.
  • Supply a train wash system tailored to the operational requirements of Calgary's LRV fleet.
  • Provide installation and commissioning support during construction of the MSF.
  • Coordinate installation activities with the MSF contractor and the overall facility construction schedule to ensure the system is ready for operation when the facility opens.

This work will help ensure LRVs can be cleaned efficiently and safely as part of ongoing fleet maintenance and operations.

September 2026 update

NoviClean is currently progressing their design with the Green Line team to ensure the wash equipment meets all the requirements and fits within the dedicated space at the MSF.

Following approval of the final design, the team will move into fabrication of all the different components that make up a wash bay for LRVs. This work is anticipated to begin at the end of this year and into 2027.

Following fabrication, installation of the equipment is scheduled to begin in 2028, with testing and commissioning to follow before a scheduled 2029 project completion.
