Highlights from 2024 and a new construction video

Happy Holidays

What a year!

In the past five months there’s been a lot of news about Green Line, and as 2024 comes to a close we'd like to share the latest update.
Following an agreement between the City and Province, design for the southeast stations, bridges and guideways, from Shepard to 4 Street SE, resumed in October and is moving towards finalization in 2025. At the same time, The Province’s external consultant, AECOM, developed a revised alignment for the downtown. Their report was shared with The City on December 13 and is now available to view here.

The alignment is only one component of the due diligence that The City needs to undertake before making a decision on a reimagined Green Line. We look forward to sharing updates as next steps are agreed to.

Highlights from 2024

Despite the ups, downs and uncertainty in 2024, we have many accomplishments to be proud of. Here are some of our big achievements from this year.

We cleared 7 sites to make way for the Green Line.

2 awards

We won 2 awards for marketing and our environment management program.

Demolition

We produced 3 videos for our Calgary Built construction series, with over 10,600 views on YouTube.

78 Ave Underpass

We built 2 bridge structures in Ogden that will provide vehicle and pedestrian access below the CPKC tracks.

LRV doors

We tested the entire door system for our Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs), which passed in accordance with the technical specifications for safety, quality and performance.

Community events

We attended 35 community events and hosted 3 information sessions, speaking to thousands of Calgarians.

Third episode released in our construction video series: The 78 Avenue underpass in Ogden

What does it take to build a bridge beside an active rail line? The third video in our construction series explores this, taking a deep dive into the work that’s been happening in Ogden to prepare for the Green Line LRT.
This video focuses on the bridge and underpass being built at 78 Avenue S.E. to provide new access to the industrial area just east of Ogden.

What we shared at the design information sessions

In November, the Green Line team hosted three information sessions along the southeast portion of the alignment. We shared the current 60% design for stations between Ramsay/Inglewood and Shepard, as well as plans for bridges and guideways.

The materials that we shared are now available to view on our website.
