There’s good news for rugby players in Calgary when the Green Line is built.

“We think the Green Line will help improve access overall to our park,” says Luke Demeter, Vice President of Administration at the Calgary Rugby Union (CRU). “The CRU have been waiting patiently for the Green Line project to come on for a number of years and we are really looking forward to it.”

The CRU was founded in the 1960s and is the governing body for the sport of rugby throughout southern Alberta. Comprised of 13 rugby clubs stretching from Red Deer to Lethbridge, the Calgary Rugby Union operates the rugby fields at the Calgary Rugby Park.

Within Calgary, there are seven rugby clubs, welcoming players of all ages and playing abilities. With a mission to provide a safe and comprehensive rugby experience for all, the CRU encourages everyone to get involved in the game.

Demeter believes that playing a team sport like rugby teaches players a lot of great qualities that can be used throughout their lives.

“The overall goal is to have as many people introduced to our sport and participating in rugby in whatever capacity that means to them,” he says.

The CRU offers programs for those who are completely new to rugby and want to learn more about the sport.

The CRU and the Calgary Rugby Park are located close to the future Green Line alignment, as well as the South Hill Station which will be built right off Shepard Road S.E. and 86 Avenue S.E.
