Local business feature - Tea Trader

Since opening its doors in 1994, Tea Trader has stood as a cherished tea provider for Calgarians in the historic community of Ramsay. Offering an extensive array of over 150 tea selections, the merchant ships its products throughout Canada and the United States.

Following a move from Toronto to Alberta, owner, Ted Jones, made his home in Inglewood. Ted was motivated to start Tea Trader due to the need for more local tea suppliers in his community. This venture marked Calgary's first tea import business.

Tea Trader specializes in direct imports and retail of teas from trusted suppliers from all around the world. Annually, between April and October, the business introduces novel teas to its collection, featuring new additions, pleasant surprises, and a variety from well-known sources.

Residing in the area himself, Ted Jones understands the importance of the Green Line LRT into the community, stating, "We are very privileged to have Green Line coming through Inglewood and Ramsay. Many people live in this community that walk: we are very insular. This will give us a great opportunity to get out and into the community without driving."

"We are only two minutes' walk from the future [Ramsay/Inglewood] station, and one of the first businesses riders will meet down 11 Street will actually be Tea Trader."

Ted regularly engages with customers, learning stories about their tea habits and preferences. The wide variety of approaches reflects the diverse ways people enjoy tea. Some customers go off the beaten path, experimenting with their techniques. Tea holds a special place in their lives, and this ongoing learning process drives Tea Trader to explore new and innovative ways to serve tea enthusiasts.

The future Green Line Ramsay/Inglewood station will be just a short walk south of Tea Trader on 11th Street SE. The station will also be conveniently close to the rest of the community's unique shops, services, and restaurants.
