Careers about Caring

April 10, 2026
2:30 – 4:30 pm
In-person downtown Calgary

Explore meaningful career paths, ask questions and learn directly from professionals working in caring, community focused fields. Participants will gain insight, build confidence and discover pathways that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Careers about Caring “Human Books” include:

Between Friends Kimberly Presser, CEO

Kimberley Presser is the CEO of Between Friends, a Calgary-based charity that creates opportunities for individuals with disabilities to build friendships, grow independence, and experience a true sense of belonging.

Kimberley's journey with Between Friends began in 2006 when she started as a summer Camp Counsellor. What began as a seasonal job quickly became a passion. Through supporting children and youth with disabilities, Kimberley discovered how meaningful caring-centred work can be and how powerful inclusion and friendship are in shaping people’s lives.

Over the years, Kimberley took on many different roles within the organization, learning about leadership, programs, and community building while staying closely connected to the members she supports. Many of the individuals she met as children she has now watched grow into adults, which continues to inspire her work today.

Outside of her role at Between Friends, Kimberley also serves as a Paid-on-Call Firefighter with the Carstairs Fire Department. This role reflects the same values that guide her career, showing up for others, supporting your community, and working as part of a team during moments that matter most.

Now as CEO, Kimberley leads Between Friends in creating inclusive programs for children, youth, and adults with disabilities. She often shares with young people that careers in caring fields can start with a simple desire to help others and that a summer job, volunteer role, or entry-level position can grow into a meaningful career dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives.
